NORMAN, OK - A standoff at a Norman apartment complex ended peacefully Saturday afternoon.
Norman Police say an armed robbery call led them to apartments in the 1900 block of East Lindsey around 3:15 p.m. When officers got there they say two suspects went into unit 20-A and that is when the standoff started.
Neighbors watched as Norman Police ordered the suspects to come out.
“About 20 to 30 minutes in, like three of them came out two males and a female and then one male was left inside,” Resident Angela Klinedinst said.
Police say that forth person refused to come out.
“They told him about 20 or 30 times to get out of the building,” witness, Ben Houlett, said.
“So because this was a person that we believed was armed and had been involved in possibly a violent crime we called out our SWAT team,” Lt. Stacey Clement, with Norman Police, said.
About two hours later witnesses say a man inside finally surrendered.
“Once SWAT showed up they got all around the door, got ready and as they were just getting ready, they had the batting ram ready to go, and right as they were getting ready to go in he came out,” Houlett said.
Norman Police say the reported armed robbery happened where the standoff took place.
“Our understanding at this point is that everything occurred here at this apartment, but we are still investigating what’s going on,” Lt. Clement said.
We are told that four people were taken in for questioning and that no one was injured.
