OKLAHOMA CITY - Police said 21-year old Kiani Monji was selling sex online, advertising escort services.

Oklahoma City Police Lieutenant Alex Edwards allegedly answered those ads, and the two were supposed to meet at an Oklahoma City hotel.

"The evidence shows Edwards was attempting to arrange a prostitution meeting with this woman, where sex would be exchanged for money," said captain Paco Balderrama, OKCPD.

But, before that meeting could happen, Mongi was arrested by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.

Investigators said Edwards had even tipped her off about a potential prostitution sting involving state and federal agents.

"It was information related to an ongoing investigation that was going on this weekend, information that he gave her in order that she not be arrested," Balderrama said.

After her arrest, agents were going through her phone and discovered several text messages between Mongi and Edwards.

Investigators then alerted the Oklahoma City P.D. one of their own was involved.

Edwards was arrested late Friday night on a number of complaints, including obstruction, conspiracy and aiding prostitution.

Authorities don't think the officer was on duty during those exchanges.

An arrest coming as a shock to those who know him because of his involvement in the community, nonprofit boards and parent groups.
