VATICAN CITY – Pope Francis has shocked several people with his views of evolution and Creationism.
Speaking to members of the Pontifical Academy of Science on Monday, Pope Francis said the scientific theory of evolution does not contradict the intervention of God as creator.
Instead, he says the “Big Bang” theory is part of God’s plan.
Scientists believe the formation of the universe occurred with the “Big Bang” nearly 14 billion years ago.
The ‘Big Bang’ refers to the belief that there was an instant in time when the entire universe was contained in a single point in space and the universe was born in a single, sudden event.
This week, the pope said the scientific accounts of the beginning of the universe and the evolution of life are compatible with the Catholic Church’s vision of creation.
He said that God is not a wizard or magician with a magic wand.
Instead, he says God created life and let each develop according to the natural laws he gave them.
