POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY -- A man shot multiple times crashed his van while searching for someone to call 911.

Paramedics rushed Albert Rider, 53, to the hospital Monday morning but they were unable to save him.

A homeowner called for help after Rider crashed his van through the front gate surrounding a home near New Hope Road and Fishmarket Road.

Pottawatomie County Undersheriff J.T. Palmer said someone broke into Rider’s home in Cleveland County.

Investigators said they believe he may have been searching for those responsible.

Rider was shot less than a mile from where he crashed his van.

"He was not able to give us anything before they took him to the hospital and then, like I said, he passed away before we could interview him," Palmer said.

It is unclear if the shooting and burglary are connected.

Investigators have not made any arrests.

Rider’s family told us he just recently married his wife and returned from his honeymoon last week.
