OKLAHOMA CITY-- A North Carolina man made his way to the state capitol riding a tandem bike.
Art Whiting's journey started when he and his late wife made plans to ride across country.
Those plans were cut short when his wife Jessi passed away from brain cancer.
Art says they didn't get enough time together.
"She and I were going to do a fifteen thousand mile bike trip leaving from Washington D.C. going to every state capital in the U.S.," Whiting said.
They never got the chance to see the country on their tandem bike.
But she did have a final wish.
"She said don't forget, you gotta do this trip," Whiting said.
Shortly after, Art hit road, carrying Jessi with him in spirit.
"She'd be cheering she'd be saying the old that-a-boy, and she'd be psyched," Whiting said.
The more time on the road, the more Art realized this isn't just about riding for Jessi.
"It's also a celebration of living, being able to enjoy the spring, able to enjoy the sunshine on a day like today; and getting to meet people and realize some of them are down in the dumps about their cancer battle. Come on, rise up and enjoy the good about what you have," Whiting said.
Whiting plans on wrapping up his journey in Washington D.C. in October.
