CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — A yearbook quote may stand in the way of a senior class vice president’s graduation day.

WSB-TV reported Paris Gray is class vice president, a member of SADD, the Beta Club and a leader at her Georgia high school.

Gray told WSB-TV she was punished with in-school suspension and kept from activities all because of a quote that appeared next to her picture in the yearbook.

The message in the book stated: “When the going gets tough just remember to Barium, Carbon, Potassium, Thorium, Astatine, Arsenic, Sulfur, Uranium, Phosphorus.”

It seems innocent enough until you look up those elements on the periodic table and put together the symbols for each one:

Ba – Barium
C – Carbon
K – Potassium
Th – Thorium
At – Astatine

As – Arsenic
S – Sulfur
U – Uranium
P – Phosphorus

Gray said neither editors nor adults flagged the message before the book went to print.

“Basically, it’s just me saying ‘Start all over again,’” Paris told  WSB-TV.

But school administrators didn’t think it was funny once they decoded the message.

As a leader in her school, Gray was to speak at the graduation ceremony but the assistant principal told her she would no longer be allowed.

A school official told WSB-TV no official decision has been made.
