SILVER SPRING, Md. – A legally blind man in Maryland says someone left a racist note on his windshield after he and his fiancé used a handicapped parking spot.

“My fiancé and I were running errands in Silver Springs and parked in a handicap parking space and we displayed my handicap placard,” D’Anthony White told JET. “When we returned to our car, we found the note on the windshield.”

White says he was a passenger in the vehicle.

He uploaded a picture of the note to his Facebook page.

“The only thing hadicap [handicap] on you is your brain you lazy ni*****,” the note read.

White told FOX 5 that he is legally blind, but does not usually use a cane or wear glasses.

“My initial reaction was, ‘You don’t know if I have a disability or not. All disabilities are not visible,’ ” said White. “Just because you can’t see my disability, don’t make the assumption I don’t have one.”

White says this is not the first time he has encountered problems because of his disability.

“Once, a bartender refused to serve me because he assumed I was holding on to James’ shoulder because I was wasted,” White wrote on his Facebook post. “I had to tell him it was because I had a vision impairment and couldn’t see in the dark bar.”

The man says he tries not to let the negative comments get to him.

“I try not to let any of the ignorance bother me too much — then they’ve won,” he wrote. “I keep going because it definitely beats the alternative! And, this bigot won’t get me down either!”
