One person is in custody after a double-fatal shooting at the Parish Medical Center in Titusville.

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – Two people are dead after an apparent random shooting at a Florida hospital.

According to WESH, 29-year-old David Owens entered the Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, Fla. Sunday armed with a handgun.

Officials say Owens walked into 88-year-old Cynthia Zingsheim’s hospital room and shot and killed Zingsheim and a 36-year-old hospital employee, identified as Carrie Rouzer.

Police say the attack appears random.  So far, there is no evidence that Owens knew wither of the victims.

Owens reportedly left the gun in the patients room.

He was tackled by two unarmed security guards shortly after the shooting.

He was arrested and booked into the Brevard County Jail on two counts of first-degree murder.

Investigators are working to determine a motive.

“We’re going to be looking under every possible lead that we have and working around the clock so we can figure out why this happened. But everything right now shows that this was just random,” Titusville Police Chief John Lau said.

Police told WESH that Owens does have a criminal history, but they never imagined he could do something like this.

“He is known to us. He does have a, a criminal history but nothing that would make you think it would get to this degree,” Chief Lau said.

In 2012, a judge ordered Owens to undergo a mental health examination, court records obtained by WESH show.

The records also show Owens was convicted of battery on a police officer in 2011.
