NICE, France – As thousands of residents celebrated Bastille Day in France, authorities say a truck driver drove through a crowd in Nice, France.

According to Sky News, the incident took place as revelers were watching a fireworks display.

According to NBC, at least 80 are dead, including children.

“The driver of the truck seems to have left dozens dead,” according to Christian Estrosi, president of the Nice Cote d’Azur region.

Video shows revelers running in panic in the French beach town after the truck drove into a group of people watching fireworks in celebration of the country’s national holiday, according to witnesses.

A photo from the scene shows a white truck with its windshield riddled by bullet holes, surrounded by armed officers, according to local newspaper Nice Matin.

Videos taken at the scene show panicked crowds running from the scene. One photo taken from above shows numerous bodies in the street.

Bastille Day is France’s biggest public holiday, celebrating a Parisian mob’s storming of a royal prison in 1789, kicking off the French Revolution.
