CLEVELAND, Miss. – One person is dead following a shooting on the campus of a Mississippi university.
On Monday, Delta State University sent out an alert to students, warning about an active shooter on campus.
The campus was immediately placed on lockdown and students and faculty were encouraged to stay away from windows.
Tragically, school officials say one person has died as a result of the shooting.

According to WREG, the victim is said to be a professor.
The Delta Democrat-Times reports that DSU history professor Ethan Schmidt is the victim.
The Bolivar County Deputy Coroner Murray Roark says the victim was in his office at the time of the shooting.
Authorities say Shannon Lamb, an employee at the school, is a person of interest.
However, no arrests have been made.
Approximately 4,000 students are enrolled at Delta State University and about 30 percent live on campus.
