OKLAHOMA CITY – Danielle Fabian, a regular Facebook user, has made the transition back to life before social media.

As part of her New Year’s resolutions, she decided to stop using her phone and Facebook for social media.

Fabian says she wants to get back to the basics of interacting with people.

Just a few days into the New Year, Danielle says she can notice a major difference in her life.

Fabian said, After a few days of trying to force myself, it became easier and I noticed I was able to enjoy my surroundings a lot more than whenever I was just constantly on my phone.”

Interacting with friends has become easier for her, but she says she still struggles with gaining the attention of friends who are stuck to their devices.

She said, “Sometimes, I feel like my friends are completely ignoring me ’cause they are staring at their phone and I’m telling them something important and they completely miss it.”

Josh McCullock is a Facebook user and says he notices major problems that come from using social media.

He said, “They forget how to have a real conversation with somebody; sit down and have a cup of coffee and connect with somebody face-to-face.”

Having children of his own, Josh has set rules when his family is together.

McCullock said, “We have a rule in our house that when our children are with us we put the phones away. And it’s silly how tempting it is to check your phone but I don’t want my children to grow up with a phone between me and them.”

Danielle has a warning for other Facebook users.

She said, “I feel like we need to minimize our usage on it or else it can become a bad thing, for sure.”
