EDMOND Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma invites the community to celebrate the holiday season at its annual WinterGlow event 6-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6. The evening will feature free, festive activities for the whole family.

Themed “A Central Story,” the evening will begin with the ceremonial lighting of Old North, the oldest building on Central’s campus, along with carols performed by the Young Choirs of Central Oklahoma and comments from UCO President Don Betz and Edmond Mayor Charles Lamb.

Central will continue its use of LED lights on Old North and other campus holiday light displays, which use 10 percent of the amount of electricity of traditional holiday lights. Now in its sixth year, the initiative is part of Central’s campus-wide, eco-friendly “green” efforts.

Immediately following the lighting ceremony, the holiday celebration will continue in the winter wonderland of the Nigh University Center (NUC) where guests are invited to take a photo with Santa in exchange for the donation of a new, unwrapped toy or children’s book for Edmond’s Hope Center and participate in an array of holiday-themed activities including a “Santa’s Workshop” craft area, writing letters to troops with the Blue Star Mothers of America, train rides, face painting, caricature artists, games, photo booths and s’mores.

In addition to the campus activities, Edmond’s third, fourth and fifth grade students will receive a coloring sheet in class which will be submitted to WinterGlow’s coloring contest.

Contest winners will be announced during WinterGlow.
