OKLAHOMA CITY - An OG&E customer was the target of what’s believed to be a scam. The small business owner received a threatening phone call, pay up or get cut off.

The caller said he was an OG&E contractor and was on the way to cut off her power.

“This guy was really pushy,” Morgan Harris, owner of Green Bambino, said.

The caller told her she was behind on her payments and her power would be turned off.

“That was the implication you need to call this 800 number to pay so we don't show up in the next five to ten minutes to disconnect your services,” Harris said.

But Harris wasn't falling for it.

“I had a hunch this is not how a disconnection would happen,” she said.

She was right. OG&E says they would never call saying they were on their way to turn the power off.

OG&E says customers would get a notice in the mail and then could get a call but it would refer them to call the number on their bill.

Another red flag, the man refused to say what contract company he worked for.

He also got pretty angry when he realized Harris wasn't buying his story.

“When I said I'm going to hang up and call OG&E directly he said something like, ‘Well, that's just fine. Jesus,’ with a lot of emotion,” she said.

“They're really trying to pressure you and we are not going to do that,” OG&E Spokesperson Kathleen O’Shea said.

OG&E says this is not the first time they've heard of this scam.

They say to always double-check your account and call the company directly if there's any question.

“We want to get the message out to people this is not OG&E calling them,” O’Shea said.

OG&E actually doesn't have contractors who shut the power off. They are able to do that themselves.

The company says, as a good reminder, they would never ask you to wire money or use pre-paid credit cards to pay your bill.
