SHAWNEE, Okla. -- There were tense moments in Shawnee after a man fired multiple gunshots, just blocks away from a school.

Thomas Tiger, 23, was arrested Wednesday afternoon by Shawnee Police. Officials say while gunshots were fired, nobody was injured, and the act appears to be random.

It was a little after 1 p.m. when the quiet Shawnee neighborhood came to life.

"I was in the kitchen, putting a pot of beans on, and I heard a pop, pop, pop," said Steven Eggleston. "Then I heard the bullets whiz past the back door."

Those shots were fired just down the road, in the middle of Bryan Street.

"We got a call of a suspect that was shooting at cars, and at people," said Detective Jason Crouch, with Shawnee Police.

Crouch was one of the first on scene, spotting Tiger on the side of the street with a gun.

"We were able to take him into custody without incident," said Crouch. "There were three loaded magazines, and the weapon itself."

As the situation unfolded, news spread to Pleasant Grove School, just up the road.

Police placed the school on lock-down as the investigation unfolded.

"We were in our classroom, and we just heard the intercom say we were on lock-down," said student Michaela Pearne. "Everyone was confused and freaked out."

That confusion and fear was felt by parents and grandparents as well.

"It's a dangerous world, it really is," said Christine Wood, as she picked her grand kid up from school. "These are just kids, you've got to protect them."

Police are aware of at least three shots that were fired, all seemingly being aimed at a large truck on the road.

The suspect did not know the driver of the truck, and appeared to be firing without provocation, according to police.

Tiger remains in the Pottawatomie County Jail for shooting with intent to kill.
