EVERETT, Pa. – Although Christmas is less than two weeks away, many shoppers are still hitting the stores to get last-minute gifts.

However, the holiday season can also be a struggle for some families.

“Bills were really high for December. I had like an $800 water bill, so it’s just like, ‘Well, I’m gonna go and put stuff on layaway and hope for the best,” Kristen Martin told WJAC.

In fact, about 200 families put Christmas gifts on layaway at a Walmart in Everett, Pennsylvania.

They had no idea a ‘secret santa’ would make a huge donation to make Christmas a little brighter for all of those families.

“In this area, you don’t hear a lot. I mean, you hear small things where somebody pays somebody’s grocery bill or things like that but this was pretty big,” Barbara Karns, who has worked at Walmart for 20 years.

In all, the anonymous donor spent about $40,000 on those layaway gifts.
