COMANCHE, Okla. — It may be Comanche, Oklahoma’s worst kept secret.

“We were told to keep it a secret. I succeeded until everyone found out,” said Jett Sparks, a student.

Jett and Claire Sparks’ aunt recently won an afternoon with Oklahoma City Thunder star Serge Ibaka at a fundraising auction.

“It’s something I love to do. I’m excited to be here,” Ibaka said.

Ibaka was given the red carpet treatment Thursday by the Comanche School District and made a lasting first-impression on several students.

“When I looked up at him, I couldn’t even believe it. I was like, he’s a giant. I was nervous and he was really tall, very, very tall,” said Claire Sparks.

He may look intimidating, but Serge Ibaka is a gentle giant.

“Taking a selfie with 500 kids, it was fun. I always enjoy spending time with kids,” Ibaka said.

Serge also shared a message of hope and inspiration, daring kids to dream BIG, despite what others may say.

“You plant a seed and who knows what happens in 10-15 years; you never know. My job is to share my story,” he said.

A story, that no matter where you begin, perseverance and prayer can take you anywhere.

Serge Ibaka is proof of that.
