OKLAHOMA CITY – Authorities at the Oklahoma County Jail say they are keeping a close eye on a former officer who was convicted of sex crimes.

On Thursday, a jury found Daniel Holtzclaw guilty of 18 of 36 charges related to sex crimes.

The jury recommended Holtzclaw spend 263 years behind bars.

When the verdict was read, Holtzclaw broke down in tears and could be heard sobbing uncontrollably.

He stood up and shook his head towards his family, mouthing “I didn’t do it.”

As he walked out, he stared down members of the jury.

On Friday, Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel confirmed that Holtzclaw is under suicide watch.

Officials say a detention officer or a deputy is sitting outside his cell to make sure he doesn’t try to take his own life.
