OKLAHOMA CITY — Fire crews were called out to an apartment complex on the southwest side of Oklahoma City early Friday morning.

Crews responded to a smoke investigation call in the 2700 block of SW 74th Street about 3:30 a.m. Friday.

Crews arrived to heavy smoke and flames coming from a single apartment.

Firefighters found a sleeping man inside the unit.

The man was rescued from the burning apartment, and then detained.

According to the mother of the detained man, he has mental problems, and routinely forgets to take his medication.

She speculates he started the fire accidentally.

There was one other person treated for minor smoke inhalation at the scene.
