NORMAN, Okla. -- Church patrons were highly upset when they found that the statue of Mary had been defaced.

Church goers say the vandals used black spray paint to cover the face of the Virgin Mary.

For church members, it's a place of meditation. But after vandals defaced the statue of Mary and taped the name of Voodoo goddess, Erzulie, to the shrine, John Paul Cook says it's hard for anyone to concentrate.

"Acts like this are intended to be disruptive, they're intended to be chaotic."

But after a few hours of cleaning, the evidence of the chaotic act was blasted away.

Now, with no leads, the church is placing their faith in the police, hoping they can turn up whoever is behind this.

Cook says he hopes whoever is behind this faces up to their crime.

"If they find out who did it and they can bring that person to justice, then that would be a positive outcome too."

Now the church is offering a reward to anyone with information.
