VALE OF GLAMORGAN, Wales – In Wales, about 100 people responded to a Facebook appeal to attend the funeral of a former soldier in the Welsh Guard.
Former Welsh Guardsman Harold Morgan died on Nov. 2.
Church officials were worried that no one would attend Morgan’s funeral when undertakers were unable to contact his family or friends.
So, they launched an appeal on social media.
As a direct result of the Facebook post, long-lost friends attended the funeral, along with a few strangers.
“It’s hard to keep track of all our old soldiers through the years. The Welsh Guards Association do a good job but obviously today, coming here to honor one of our former soldiers is a very proud day for us,” said Sgt. David Scarf, with the Welsh Guard.
So many people showed up for the funeral speakers had to be set up so mourners standing outside could also hear the service.
