PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – A young college student who was working as a medic at a summer camp died after trying to save a life.
Tragically, she was unable to save the woman.
Agins then became ill, but paramedics thought she was simply in shock.
Doctors later discovered she had torn an artery and had damage to her brain stem, injuries her family claims were the result of the ongoing CPR attempts.
Neurosurgeons told the family that Agins likely had a weak spot in her artery that gave way during the CPR.

Agins was taken off life support on Tuesday, just four days after the incident.
“Knowing she died trying to save a life, which is what she wanted to do, brings a little comfort for us,” said Bruce Agins, her father.
Agins was a senior at East Stroudsburg University and was planning to attend a physician assistant’s program after graduation.
