UNION CITY, Okla. – Students were back in school today after a local superintendent cancelled class for two days after three cases of meningitis were confirmed.

Three Union City High School baseball players are being treated for viral meningitis

According to the CDC, viral meningitis is often less severe than bacterial meningitis and usually resolves without specific treatment. But it can be severe or fatal depending on the virus causing the infection, the person’s age, or whether a person has a weakened immune system.

The school was sanitized during the closure to help ensure the sickness does not spread.
