GREENE COUNTY, Ga. – A family is furious after they say a teacher made fun of a student with a disability.

Shaniaya Hunter, a junior at Greene County High School, has an eye condition that has kept her out of class at times.

In December, she was trying to catch up before a test and asked the teacher a question.

“I have been around for 37 years and clearly, you are the dumbest girl that I have ever met,” the teacher allegedly said. “You know what your purpose [is] going to be? To have sex and have children, because you ain’t gonna never be smart.”

“It really hurt me inside,” Hunter told WSB before breaking down in tears.

Greene County Schools did not speak about the issue, saying there are limits to what they can publicly say.

“This is about a school system that is failing our children and allowing these acts to go on,” Christie Lockhart, Hunter’s aunt, said.

Hunter says she isn’t the only student who has been criticized by the teacher, but she is the only one who has come forward.

Hunter’s attorney is asking the district to fire the teacher.
