OKLAHOMA CITY — A teacher is accused of stealing Xanax pills from her colleague while school was in session.

Charli Swyden, 29, is charged with six counts of larceny of a controlled dangerous substance.

According to an affidavit, a sixth-grade teacher at Oklahoma City’s Horace Mann Elementary repeatedly noticed pills missing from her purse, which she kept hanging in her coat closet near her desk.

She decided to take matters into her own hands, setting up her laptop as a sort of security camera.

Over the course of about a month, she recorded Swyden pouring out her pills six times.

“She was able to get everything on video and as a result of that video, we were able to go with an investigation,” said district spokesman Mark Myers. “At that point, the teacher decided to resign from the district.”

The Horace Mann website lists Swyden as a fifth-grade teacher. The district tells NewsChannel 4 Swyden was in her first year with OKCPS.

“This was an adult doing a crime, and now she’s facing the consequences for it,”  Myers said. “Obviously this is something that cannot be tolerated in our school system. We’re just glad that there weren’t any students or children involved.”
