Humans and their pets share a special bond that, at times, is beyond reason.
Now, a stray dog has gained the world’s attention for his loyalty to an adventure racing team.
The Team Peak Performance of Sweden was competing in the Adventure Racing World Championship in Ecuador, a grueling course that spans 430 miles and includes hiking, mountain biking and kayaking.
After that, the dog began following the team through the trek despite efforts to send him away.
According to CNN, the dog even put himself in danger and needed to be rescued by the team a few times.
Eventually, the group accepted their new teammate and named him “Arthur.”
During the kayaking portion of the race, organizers told the team to leave Arthur behind because it would be simply too dangerous with him in the kayak.
However, he refused to be left behind.
Arthur jumped in the water and started swimming beside the kayak.
“This was too heartbreaking for the team, and Mikael helped Arthur up in the kayak. This led to standing ovations from everyone on the shore, seeing the five team mates set off,” the team’s Facebook post said.
The team finished the six-day race in 12th place and crossed the finish line with their new team member.
Lindnord eventually adopted Arthur and took him home to Sweden.
He also started the Arthur Foundation, which was created with the intent to help other stray dogs.
