CRESCENT, Okla.- When Crescent police officer Joey Barta approached a vehicle for a routine stop, he had no idea he was about to make the highest profile arrest of his career.

He said he told both of the individuals, that now would the time to be honest because it was obvious there was marijuana in the vehicle.

After handing over one ounce of marijuana, the officer was shocked by what the driver said next.

"The driver, Cody Godfrey, admitted that he had been arrested and didn’t really say what for. I said ok, what were you arrested for? And he said I’m going to be charged with accessory to murder after the fact." said Barta

It was routine traffic stop, turned high-profile bust within seconds.

Godfrey,18, is out on bail after being charged with accessory after the fact in the murder of JaRay Wilson, the sixteen-year-old who went missing in 2012.

Her body was found fourteen months later in a wooded area near Weatherford.

Godfrey allegedly knew of Wilson’s murder and hid information that would lead officials her alleged killer, 19-year-old Tucker McGee.

Barta said Godfrey admitted that he had transported and smoked the pot.

Passing random drug tests is a condition of his bail and if the D.A. sticks to that condition, he’ll be back behind bars.

His trial is set for January 30, 2015.
