STILLWATER, Okla. – A high school recruit that recently committed to play baseball at Oklahoma State University is accused of a horrific crime.

In April, Zachary Holifield, 17, verbally committed to play baseball at Oklahoma State University, according to FieldLevel.

However, Holifield is being held at the Collin County Jail following his arrest late last month.

Holifield is facing charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child by sexual contact.

A spokesman for the Plano Police Department told the Dallas News that the charges stem from allegations that he assaulted two children that he knew through the day care that his mother operated.

Police told KXAS that one of the victims is just 5-years-old, but the probable cause affidavit claims the alleged abuse began when she was just 3-years-old.

The victim told investigators that he would pick her up and take her to the bathroom where she was forced to perform a sex act on him. The victim allegedly said that “she probably should not have told about Zach because it was supposed to be a secret.”

On Tuesday, Holifield’s attorney released a statement to the public.

“Zach is, just like every citizen accused of a crime in this country, innocent until if proven guilty in a court of law,” Pete Schulte said. “The fact that Zach has been charged in these cases mean nothing more. The information, as written by Plano PD investigators, is not what it appears to be.”

Family and friends say the accusations are completely out of character for Holifield.

The 17-year-old pitcher was preparing for his senior season at Plano Senior High School.
