OKLAHOMA CITY - Kohl Francis,14, was thrilled to be given his Christmas money early.

He headed to Penn Square Mall to make good use of all the holiday sales.

At the store Aeropostale, he picked out $180 worth of clothes.

When he put his cash on the counter, the clerk told him he qualified for another discount shirt.

Kohl said he turned away for a just a few seconds to look at shirts.

When he turned back, his money was gone and he was stunned.

"Actually, I thought it was a prank," he said.

Kohl and his mom, Erin Thomas, said the store caught the theft on tape.

Erin said she can't believe what she saw.

"Right when he turned around the woman right next to him goes 'swipe' and stuck it in her pocket," Erin said. "She was probably 45 to 50 years old and she had a teenager with her."

OKC Police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said people need to be on high alert this time of year.

"Obviously don't leave money if you walk off just for a brief second," she said. "That's all it takes to come in and steal your money, your property, whatever that might be."

Erin said she hopes this woman has second thoughts and does the right thing.

"I just want this woman to anonymously bring this back and open her eyes and think this is a really dumb mistake and say 'l'll never do that again.'"

The store said they are working with police to copy the security video and catch this crook.
