MOORE, Okla. – The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says a Texas man has been arrested for the 2012 death of his stepfather in Moore and another arrest is expected.
In April 2012, William Cooksey, 44, was found lying in his driveway just behind the back driver-side tire of his pickup truck.
Crime scene investigators with the Moore Police Department collected two palm prints on the truck near the body.
Recently, those palm prints were linked to Jason Louis Lane Diamond.
OSBI special agents located Diamond and learned he was roommates with Billyjack Luther Phillips, 30, at the time of Cooksey’s death.
The victim was married to Phillips’ mother at the time of the murder.
Diamond told special agents that Phillips asked Diamond to drive him from Dallas, Texas, to Moore to help collect his mother’s belongings, saying his mother and stepfather were fighting.
When Diamond and Phillips arrived at Cooksey’s Moore home several hours later, Phillips and Cooksey got into an altercation, officials say.
During the fight, Diamond got involved and struck Cooksey several times.
Cooksey eventually fell to the ground.
Phillips stomped and kicked Cooksey before Phillips and Diamond left the area.
According to the medical examiner, Cooksey died from blunt force injuries in conjunction with possible asphyxia due to an assault.
Last week, agents arrested Phillips at his Dallas apartment for first-degree manslaughter.
He was booked into the Collin County Jail, where he remains, officials say.
Authorities say another arrest is expected in the case.
