OKLAHOMA CITY – An Oklahoma City mother has some terrifying moments after her car was stolen in broad daylight outside a school with pair of two-year-old boys in the backseat.

The car and kids were recovered just a short time after the theft.

The mother made the mistake of leaving her car running for just a few moments while she ran inside the school to pick up another child.

“I stood by the door and waited for my daughter to come out and when turned around my car was gone,” mother Dajohnnique Northington said.

It all happened on Friday, when Dajohnnique came to the front door of the Putnam City Smart Start to get her daughter.

When the mother turned away for just seconds, someone drove away in her car with two toddlers in the back seat.

“I couldn’t think or breathe,” Northington said. “I was so worried about my babies. I didn’t know what to think.”

Luckily, just a few minutes later south of 50th and Tulsa, police found the accused car thief and kidnapping suspect Christine Williams.

According to the police report, the suspect “was not coherent and constantly had a blank stare on her face” and appeared to be high on PCP.

“She was basically out of sorts,” OKC Police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said. “Officers believed her to be under the influence of some sort of narcotic.”

Oklahoma City police said the incident illustrates why you should never leave kids alone in an unlocked car.

“Obviously not a smart thing to do, to leave your children unattended,” Wardlow said. “You can see how quickly something like this can happen. Fortunately this did turn out well. It could have had a very different ending.”

“I’m just happy to have my kids back; it was the scariest 20 minutes of my life,” Northington said. “Never again. That’s all I can say. Never again.”

Police said the pair of 2-year-old boys were not hurt in any way.

The suspect is now facing charges of kidnapping and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
