SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A California man is pleading with thieves.

“Every door’s been broken into twice. The trunk’s been broken into twice. I normally don’t keep anything in there,” Ian Graves said.

Graves says that his 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit has been a favorite target of crooks in the past.

When thieves targeted it again on Monday night, he says it was different.

“There was a thermal bag holding the remains of my mother. My mother’s ashes,” Graves said.

Graves told FOX40 that he was in the process of scattering his mother’s ashes in several places and thought they would be safe in his car overnight.

His mother, Jane, died from pancreatic cancer a couple of years ago.

Graves says he thinks it was all a mistake and does not plan on filing a police report, saying he doesn’t want to punish someone in his mother’s name.

“We all have people we miss and times that are hard and desperate moments. And here’s the chance for you to fix one of yours. I would take it, it’s pretty rare, lot of karma points,” Graves said.
