LOCUST GROVE, Okla. (KOKI)– Friday evening, a man and a woman pulled into “Deals on Wheels” trying to test drive an SUV. But it quickly went from a test ride to a joy ride.
“He just sped right out, and he’s gone,” Mary Pearce said.
Pearce said she gave the woman the key to the (sic) they wanted to try out. But the woman said she needed to go back to her car outside to grab her driver’s license. That’s when the man drove off in the SUV, and the woman followed.
Pearce has been in the car sales business for 28 years, and said this has happened to her a handful of times.
“It’s a horrible feeling, you know, and you can’t do nothing about it.”
She said each time, police have eventually found the stolen car. She’s hopeful it will be the same this go ’round.
“I hope they abandon it somewhere, and don’t destroy it.”
Pearce said she is usually strict about the license and phone number requirement, but she was just too trusting this time. She says that will change.
“We’ll be a lot more cautious.”
