OKLAHOMA CITY - A group of Oklahoma trial lawyers are giving away turkeys to thousands of families for the holiday season.

This is the 6th Annual Day of Kindness event, and lawyers from five cities in our state have donated $100,000 for the cause.

On Thursday, people started lining up for the giveaway at 4:30 a.m., waiting until 10 a.m. for their free turkeys.

As the sun started to rise, more and more hungry people waited in line for a free turkey. Many of those Oklahomans just wanting to provide for their families.

"Food feeds the soul. If you put kids in front of a good meal and you put your love in it and they eat it, they can tell. When they get done, the first thing they come to are hugs and gratitude," said Doretha Berry.

This food giveaway is possible through the collaboration of Oklahoma Trial Attorneys, donating $100,000 to feed those who need it most.

"What we look at is something simple, a $15 turkey, to them it's a difference of eating or not eating," said Noble McIntyre, with McIntyre Law.

"Kids just like being happy and food makes them happy," said Berry.

“The fact that I know there's going to be some kids fed is what makes me feel the best," said McIntyre.

Deborah Williams has only been able to work part-time since last year, due to a medical procedure.

"I don't make as much as I used to, so I'm dependent on a lot of different things," she said.

Getting a free turkey is a way for her to help provide for her sister, nieces and nephews this Thanksgiving.

"I won't have to go out and spend money that I really don't have and it will be a good meal. I'll have turkey with the trimmings instead of just the trimmings," said Williams.

She's hoping to make a full spread that will make this holiday season even more special.

"They don't know how much we appreciate it," said Williams.

"Thank you," said Berry.

If you didn't get a turkey Thursday, you have a chance to get one Friday in Norman at David Bernstein's law office, at 104 W. Gray Street.

Their giveaway starts at 10 a.m.
