TINKER AIR FORCE BASE – Tinker showed off its girl power Friday.

An all-female crew was assembled for the AWACS E-3 Sentry for women’s heritage month.

Women have actually been a part of AWACS since 1984 but there is now enough of them in all positions that an all-female crew could be put into action.

Organizers said the air force relies on women each day for critical missions around the world.

Air Force Col. Stella Smith, 552nd Maintenance Group Commander said, “We are totally meritocracy; it doesn’t matter what you look like, it doesn’t matter if you’re a woman or a man, or what your background is, all that matters is can you do your job, can you do it well.”

Smith, who’s been in the Air Force for 24 years, said the same holds true for any career field.

She said she believes women can excel just like anyone else.
