OKLAHOMA CITY – Traffic delays are expected on I-35 near I-40 after a fiery wrong-way crash that left two people injured.

Around 2:24 a.m., officials say a pickup driving southbound in the northbound lanes of I-35 collided head on with a semi hauling bottled water near I-40.

Firefighters say a fire ensued in the tractor of the semi.

Fortunately, the driver of the semi was able to make it out of the truck; however, the driver of the pickup truck had to be extricated.

The two drivers were rushed to a local hospital.  The condition of the patients are unknown at this time.

Officials say one of the semi’s saddle tanks ruptured after the crash, leaking diesel fuel onto the interstate.

After firefighters extinguished the fire, hazmat crews worked to control the diesel spill.

The I-35 off-ramp to I-40 remains closed until crews can clear the scene.

Drivers are encouraged to find an alternate route.
