OKLAHOMA CITY – Today an Oklahoma transgender female was granted the name change she had been previously denied.
According to reports, the Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals reversed Oklahoma County Judge Bill Grave’s refusal to grant a name change to a transgender individual.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Oklahoma appealed the judge’s denial of Angela Ingram’s application to change her legally recognized name from James Dean Ingram to Angela Renee Ingram.
Angela lives as a woman, and wants to legally change her name to match her identity.
Brady Henderson, Legal Director of the ACLU of Oklahoma stated, “This ruling represents another important victory that says equality and fundamental rights are not dependent upon an individual’s gender identity.”
Ingram stated that she is just happy that she can finally move on.
Henderson praised the court today saying, “The Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals did the right thing in reversing that decision.”
