Today, the U.S. Postal Service is celebrating America’s love for food by issuing new limited-edition Celebrity Chefs Forever stamps.
The new stamps feature five cooking icons: James Beard, Julia Child, Joyce Chen, Edna Lewis, and Felipe Rojas-Lombardi. Each of these chefs revolutionized the American culinary experience and served as early, ardent champions of modern food trends.
They also encouraged home cooks to experiment with new recipes and, most importantly, have fun in the kitchen. Their unique contributions continue to influence the menus of chefs today.
The stamps were unveiled today by “Top Chef” and James Beard Award winner Stephanie Izard as she helps kick-off the 2014 Chicago Gourmet festivities. The event showcases more than 150 of Chicago’s finest restaurants and the chefs who bring culinary inspirations to life.
Izard owns two Chicago restaurants including Little Goat and Girl & the Goat, for which she received a 2013 James Beard Award in the “Best Chef: Great Lakes” category.
The stamps are digital illustrations created by artist Jason Seiler and are meant to resemble oil paintings.
