OKLAHOMA - An Oklahoma mail carrier is under investigation following months of mail thefts in Deer Creek Village off 150th and MacArthur.

The USPS employee in question has not been identified, but the postal service did confirm Tuesday that it is investigating someone.

Those in the neighborhood said the nearly weekly thefts have been occurring since the summer.

"We had two pieces of mail that wasn't delivered, and both of them were cards," said Courtney Dunigan. "Both had checks in them."

"We mailed a birthday card to our daughter in Austin, Texas and included in it was a check," said Steve England. "That was mailed in August. The card has never been received."

For Ashtyn Smith, the story is a little different.

A 'thank you' card was delivered to her several weeks late.

A USPS letter sent with it explained why.

"Basically, said that my mail had been tampered with, and it was caught and, that it was open and, if anything was missing, I needed to let them know," Smith said.

Thankfully, nothing was taken out of that card, but what about the rest of her mail?

"We just had Christmas, so we don't know what we're missing," Smith said. "The thing is for us, since we don't know, it's not that big of a deal, but who sent us the letter or card or gift card or package? We never thanked them."

Mail is the buzz on the Facebook neighborhood watch group.

One woman wrote the thief must have not liked Elsa and decided not to take the gift.

Others said they are missing gift cards, money and packages.

"Kind of disappointed that someone's like going through our mail and taking, I guess, the good stuff and leaving us the bills," said Ricky Dunigan.

USPS said, out of more than 488,000 employees, 348 were arrested in 2014 for theft, delay or destruction of mail.

If you suspect your mail has been tampered with, USPS wants to hear from you.
