TAIWAN – A 12-year-old boy accidentally damaged a 350-year-old painting at an exhibition in Taiwan over the weekend.
The boy reportedly tripped and caught his balance by pushing against a 17th-century oil on canvas painting.
The head of the company says, “the boy’s hand made contact with the artwork and left a hole the size of a fist.”
Officials claim the damaged painting is Paolo Porpora’s “Flowers” and worth about $1.5 million.
A Taiwanese art specialist was called to the scene to restore the painting.
Officials say the boy and his family will not be asked to pay for the cost of restoring the painting.
