Wandering toddler leads neighbor to deceased mother; suspect being extradited

GARBER, Okla. – Deputies are investigating a suspicious death following a neighbor’s discovery around 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The neighbor had seen a four-year-old child wandering the streets around the 400 block of E. Ponca.

When they took the toddler home, they discovered her mother dead in the apartment, according to Garfield Sheriff Jerry Niles.

The victim’s boyfriend, Christopher R. Sparks, was named as the suspect and was picked up around 10 p.m. Saturday.

He was found in the Phoenix, Arizona area after leaving the state around 1 or 2 a.m. Saturday, according to Niles.

He is expected to be extradited back to Garfield County.

The victim’s name has not been released, but deputies said she was in her mid 20’s.

OSBI is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
