LAS VEGAS – Authorities say they have arrested two people accused of working together to set a pet store full of puppies on fire.

Cameras at the Prince and Princess Puppies and Boutique store caught a flicker of light around 12:40 a.m. on Jan. 27.

Prosecutors say the store owner, Gloria Lee, came into the store and let a man inside at the back door.

While the two were in the back, 27 puppies were sleeping in their cages along the wall.

Investigators say the man, Kirk Bills, allegedly started dousing the shelves with lighter fluid.

While Bills was in the front of the store, Lee could be seen gathering files and other paperwork in the back.

A few minutes later, cameras caught Bills allegedly throwing gas onto the merchandise, including the front of the cages where the puppies are held.

Shortly before leaving, Bills could be seen lighting newspaper near the gas.

Around 1 a.m., the store ignited.

The flames crept along the floor, spreading right in front of the cages.

The puppies could be seen hiding in the back of their cages as the store is engulfed.

Fortunately, investigators say the alleged arsonists forgot about one specific feature in the business.

After the flames began to grow, the fire alarm sounded and the store’s sprinkler system doused the blaze.

The sprinklers put out the fire, saved the lives of all the puppies and preserved the cameras and video evidence.

The pair were arrested and each face 31 counts including arson and attempted animal cruelty.
