SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. – An officer with the Memphis Police Department has resigned after being charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder of a child.
Investigators say Jasleyn Grant was off-duty when she shot and killed her lover, 29-year-old Keara Crowder, and shot at the woman’s son.
Grant picked up a gun and pointed it at Crowder’s son.
That’s when witnesses say Crowder picked up the other gun, told her son to run and hit Grant in the head with the gun.
Crowder’s 12-year-old son told police that as he was running, he heard several gunshots.
When he turned around, he says he saw Grant shooting at him.
Crowder died after being shot three times.
Grant admitted to shooting Crowder, but claimed it was self-defense.
