MORGANTOWN, W.V. – A West Virginia freshman from New York died on Friday after he was found unconscious at a fraternity house on Wednesday.

“Everyone at Canisius loved him. Everyone,” said Nicholas Iacono.

Nolan Burch still has a lot of friends at Canisius High School in Buffalo.

“He would easily be a great brother. Yeah, I mean, he was a great friend to everyone who was around him,” said Sean McMahon.

The Williamsville native started his freshman year at West Virginia University this fall in the business college.

The university’s dean of students says Burch was rushed to the hospital on Thursday after a “catastrophic medical emergency” at the Kappa Sigma Fraternity house.

“This is pretty grave,” said Corey Farris, the dean of students.

West Virginia is stopping all Greek activities until further notice, possibly until the end of the semester.

Police are now investigating Burch’s death.
