CALIFORNIA — A homeless woman was inside a Raising Cane’s one night, quietly asking people if she could eat their leftovers.
Every person she asked ignored her and threw their food in the trash.
Carmen Mendez saw what was happening and felt a tug on her heartstrings.
She told her significant other that if she saw the woman again before they left, she would give her any leftovers.
“As I was gonna throw away my one leftover chicken strip and like 5 fries I heard a very quite voice ask me if I had anything left. I turned around and it was her,” Carmen wrote in a Facebook post.
So Carmen gave the woman her food.
But something didn’t seem right.
“I felt like a horrible human being feeding her my leftover chicken strip..she deserved so much more…”
So Carmen decided to buy the woman a hot meal all for herself. And she asked the employees not to kick the woman out of the restaurant while they waited for the food.
“I could already see the disgust on people’s faces as she sat at the table eating the leftovers I had given her.”
The homeless woman gave Carmen a big warm embrace of “pure, real gratitude,” and Carmen held her as she cried.
“So next time u judge a homeless person think twice…not all of them are homeless because of a drug addiction or because they are lazy.”
