Desirae Penton spends most of her day teaching yoga at her studio Hidden Dragon in downtown Oklahoma City.

Penton, her students and their pets gather in a family atmosphere, which she calls an organic setting. They do it to improve their bodies and their outlook.

"It's improved my physical health as well as my mental health," said Deborah Booker, one of Penton’s students.  “She has a way of cleansing you and your mind and keeping you calm."

But, Penton is more than a friend and teacher. She's someone who cares deeply for those in need.

This year, her studio has raised thousands of dollars for local charities such as 'Miles For Melanoma OK,'  'JDRF OK,' 'Casa of OKC' and 'Caleb’s Cause.'

Her caring heart is why her student Amy Morris nominated her for Pay it 4Ward.

“Desirae is really committed to giving back to the community through donation classes that Hidden Dragon sponsors once a month during the 'Shop-Hop Downtown,'" Morris said. "So, I just couldn’t think of someone more deserving.”

When we surprised Penton with the $400 award from First Fidelity Bank, she was shocked but said she doesn’t get involved in the community for recognition.  But, rather, because it’s something she can do to give back for all she has been blessed with.

"What you give out there, comes back, and I get to be surrounded by these wonderful people every day, and so it's so  worth it," Penton said. "What I get in return is more than they get from showing up for a class.”

It’s all in a day’s work - putting a twist on Paying it 4Ward
