Anadarko took advantage of several early mistakes by Poteau and shut out the Pirates 40-0 to win the Class 4A state championship game on Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater.

Early in the game, Poteau fumbled on the Anadarko 1 and the Warriors recovered.

Not much went right for Poteau after that.

Anadarko got a one-yard touchdown run by R.J. Sink to take a 7-0 lead, then two turnovers turned the game into an early blowout.

Mykel Shaw returned an interception 31 yards for a touchdown to put the Warriors up 14-0.

Then a fumble by Poteau was recovered in the end zone by Anadarko to make it 21-0 after the first quarter.

Warriors quarterback Brandon Pollard ran for a score and threw two touchdown passes to extend Anadarko’s lead.

Anadarko wins their second state title in the last three years, as they finish the season 14-0.

It was the third straight season the Warriors had played in the state title game, and their first in Class 4A after moving up from 3A last season.

Poteau was in their first state championship game since 1950.
