HOUSTON, Texas - Just one day after being passed over for a national award, an OU superstar was given another prestigious title.

On Thursday, OU's Buddy Hield lost the AP National Player of the Year award to Michigan State's Denzel Valentine.

In all, three votes separated the first and second place finishers.

However, the disappointment didn't last long for Hield, who was awarded the Oscar Robertson Trophy on Friday.

The trophy is presented to the nation's top college player by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.

This time, the tables were turned as Hield received 144 votes and Valentine came in second with 108 votes.

Hield and the Sooners will take on Villanova on Saturday in the Final Four.

Tipoff is set for 5:09 p.m.
