A dreary day in late November of 2014,
"It was cold, and it was raining."
The air may have been chilly, but freshman running back Samaje Perine was heating up.
"Especially too, with the rain, we needed him to have one of those days. Ya it was one of those for the ages really... I didn't become aware of the record until late in the third quarter"
Against Kansas, Perine rushed for 427 yards. Setting a new FBS single game record.
"There was definitely some chatter about it, early in the fourth, late in the third. I was just like there's no way, that's just a video game type thing."
"We also wanted to protect him and I said that we're going to let him go this one series in the fourth quarter, and if he doesn't get it after this series, we're taking him out. And I'll be darned, I didn't say it, out of my mouth, play or two later he popped it for fifty or whatever it was, and that was it."
"Everyone started yelling, jumping up and down, clapping, it was just kind of sit back and like wow, that was incredible."
No one will soon be forgetting Samaje Perine's spectacular game in 2014 but with Perine out on the sidelines this upcoming Saturday, all eyes will once again be on Joe Mixon. Mixon had a heck of a game against Texas Tech, putting up some crazy stats, including five touchdowns, and considering Oklahoma's history with Kansas, he might just be bound for another freakish performance."
"You saw what he did. Another aspect that Joe brings is his receiving game, as you saw he went for another hundred there. He could probably have like 428 rushing and like 5,000 receiving in a game... who knows what will happen with Joe."
