Oklahoma State’s baseball team committed three errors in a costly five-run Texas 8th inning that gave the Longhorns the lead for good on their way to a 6-3 win over the Cowboys in the Big 12 Baseball Tournament Championship Game on Sunday at OneOK Field in Tulsa.
Three Cowboy errors in the 8th allowed Texas to tie it, then with the bases loaded, Zane Gurwitz singled down the right field line to score C.J. Hinojosa and Tres Barerra, giving the Longhorns a 4-2 lead.
A squeeze bunt by Brooks Marlow scored another run to make it 5-2, then an RBI single extended the Texas lead to 6-2.
OSU responded with a run in the bottom of the 8th as Dustin Williams singled in Gage Green to cut the deficit to 6-3, but the Cowboys could not score again.
Green popped out in the bottom of the 9th inning to end the game, giving Texas a 6-3 win and their fifth Big 12 Tournament championship.
The Cowboys trailed 1-0 when Corey Hassel singled in Jacob Chappell in the bottom of the 6th inning to tie the game at 1-1.
OSU took the lead in the 7th inning on a groundout by Bryan Case that scored Tim Arakawa.
The Cowboys fall to 37-18 on the season, and have lost in the title game of the Big 12 Tournament two years in a row.
OSU will find out if they will host a regional at 7:30 on Sunday night.
NCAA Tournament selections and pairings will be announced on Memorial Day at 11:00 am central time.
