Cowgirls Suffer First Loss of Season

The 11th-ranked Oklahoma Stsate women’s basketball team lost for the first time this season on Saturday night, falling to West Virginia 71-67 at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater.

OSU led most of the game, but went cold in the second half, shooting just 23 percent from the field, while the Mountaineers heated up and shot 50 percent in the second half.

Bria Holmes scored on a fast break layup with about a minute to go to break a 67-67 tie.

After Tiffany Bias missed a 3-pointer, West Virginia hit a free throw to go up one, 70-67.

OSU had a chance to tie in the final 10 seconds, but Kendra Suttles missed a 3-pointer, the Mountaineers got the rebound and held on to win by four.

LaShawn Jones led OSU with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Bias added 13 points, as did Brittany Atkins.

The Cowgirls shot just 32 percent from the field for the game.

OSU drops to 12-1 on the season, while West Virginia improved to 13-1.

The Cowgirls visit Kansas State on Wednesday.
